TRC is supporting the Natural Health and Wellbeing Festival (part of Trafford's Summer of Well-being) THIS SATURDAY 21st April at Old Trafford Community Centre, Old Trafford, Manchester 2pm till 7 pm - Tel 07842 795122 - we'll be there to give further details of the workshops and drop-ins we run at 33 The Women and Children's Centre in Sale (and a big thank you to 33 for letting us use their premises) and will also be selling our hand-made soaps - if you fancy learning how to make pampering products like these soaps for yourself, come along to our Pamper Yourself drop-in sessions, for women and children only , which run on Saturdays, 11.30-1.30pm at The Women and Children's Centre, Cross Street, Sale.

TRC Arts stall to celebrate International Women's Day

As part of Trafford Rape Crisis (TRC) outreach in the community work on March 8th 2012 we celebrated International Womens Week by joining Trafford Council and Stretford Leisure Centre in their commitment to embracing 2012 as the year of The London Olympic Games. Women were invited to try out new fun sports, keep fit activities and learn how to make delicious healthy food. Trafford Rape Crisis held an Arts stall with Barbara our artist in residence and we invited everybody to join us and make a handmade card for a woman in your life. Lots of people took the opportunity to make mothers cards, children made their own wonderful artistic creations too. We also invited people to sign a huge banner created by TRC; asking people to write anything about being a woman and or International Womens Day...the result was a wonderful piece of art with some amazing comments which were able to showcase at the launch of our Black Asian and Minority Ethnic Women's services at the Declaring the Activism of Black Feminist Theory Convention the next day.

FREE Easter Egg Hunt - Easter Sunday 8th April, Alexandra Park: Register 11.30 am, starts prompt 12 noon

As part of Trafford Rape Crisis's  Black Minority and Ethnic Outreach Service, we are supporting a wonderful Community Event organised by Hands On Hair Salon.  0161-232-8870.

Hands on Hair Proudly presents their 10th Annual Easter Egg Hunt hosted on Easter Sunday 8th April 2012 in conjunction with The nXt Generation CIC.

All those attending will meet & register at Alexandra Park, Demesne Road Entrance no later than 11:30 on the day.

The Easter Egg Hunt will begin @ 12pm PROMPT & will finish at 2pm.
Followed by our Annual Fun Day… With games for all ages.

The children will receive snacks, sandwiches, drinks and will be able to leave the event with not only their goody bags, but an Easter Egg of their choice.
All event volunteers are CRB checked & are long standing, respectable members of the local community.

This is a not-for-profit community event which we hope, gets bigger & bigger every year. To get involved, please sign up & show your support by registering online now. This way you will definitely have your place secured.

This event is free and staff and volunteers from TRC will be there handing out leaflets to members of the community, please come down and join the fun!

Mary Adenugba's Asylum Campaign

TRC is proud to be supporting Mary Adenugba's campaign for asylum in the UK.  Mary was trafficked into the UK from Nigeria in 2004 and has suffered years of abuse, exploitation and forced prostitution.  The UK has refused Mary's claim for asylum.

Members of TRC spoke at the launch of her asylum campaign, organised by RAPAR on Friday 30 March 2012, saying "Mary’s story is indeed one of unspeakable suffering, and infinite courage…and it reflects exactly the types of issues that we at Trafford Rape Crisis wish to support women and girls through via our newly established Black and Minority Ethnic women’s services.... The ways in which women are physically, emotionally and sexually violated and survive these experiences need to be understood in relation to racism and those other weights of oppression that press us down. In other words, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic women survivors of this racist patriarchy have specific issues and needs which require specific strategies, specific knowledge and specific forms of action...

We hereby declare our full and unconditional support of this campaign, and we will continually strive to do everything we can to help keep Mary safe in the UK."
